Coming Attractions: Hunger rising for 'Hunger Games'
&Ldquo;The Hunger Games,” as many of you probably already know, is the first book of a widely popular young adult series by Suzanne Collins. Published in 2008, it has remained on the New York Times Bestseller List for more than 100 weeks. Teens and adults alike are avid fans, much like fans of the “Twilight” series. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world called Panem, the nation formerly known as the United States. Panem consists of the Capitol and 12 districts. Apparently, the districts had rebelled against the Capitol previously and now, as a punishment, every year one girl and one boy, between the ages of 12 and 18, from each district, are randomly chosen to participate in the Hunger Games —a televised event in which the participants (known as “tributes”) are forced to fight each other to the death until only one survivor remains. Set to release March 23, 2012, the movie is currently in the filming stage. It was announced recently that the character of Katniss will be played by Jennifer Lawrence, who gave a remarkable performance in last year’s “Winter’s Bone,” which earned her an Oscar nomination. It was her role in “Winter’s Bone” that gave her an edge for being considered for the role of Katniss, and her moving audition that sealed the deal. The character of Peeta (Katniss’s main competitor/ally) will be played by Josh Hutcherson (“The Kids Are All Right,” “Bridge to Terabithia” and “RV”). The role of Katniss’ friend Gale is being taken on by Liam Hemsworth (brother of “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth), who has also been in “The Last Song” and “Knowing.” I’m really impressed with Jennifer Lawrence, so right now she’s the biggest enticement for me to be interested in this film.Bridge To Terabthia Movie - News
